Passkeys Sign-in Guide (Beta)

Add a passkey from a trusted device or security key, use it to sign in without typing a password, and manage the passkeys on your Scopable account.

Prerequisites

  • A Scopable account that has access to the passkeys beta
  • A recent browser with WebAuthn support
  • A trusted device with a screen lock, or a compatible hardware security key
  • Another sign-in method available until you have tested your passkey

Beta feature. Passkeys are being enabled gradually. If you do not see the passkey controls described here, they are not enabled for your account yet. Continue using your existing sign-in method and contact your administrator or Scopable for beta access.

A passkey lets you sign in with a device you trust or a hardware security key instead of typing a password. Your browser or device asks you to verify with its normal method, such as a fingerprint, face recognition, device PIN, or the security key itself. Scopable does not receive or store that local verification factor.

Before you add a passkey

Use a device you control and can unlock. A device passcode, PIN, fingerprint, or face-recognition method is required by the device, not by Scopable.

Passkeys work in current versions of the major browsers that support WebAuthn, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. They can be stored on a supported phone, tablet, or computer, or on a compatible security key. Browser support, device policy, private-browsing settings, and SSO configuration can affect availability.

Do not remove your password or another recovery sign-in method until you have added and tested at least one passkey. We recommend adding passkeys on two trusted devices, or adding one device passkey and one security key, so a lost device does not lock you out.

Add a passkey

  1. Sign in to Scopable with your current sign-in method.
  2. Open My Profile from the dashboard.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. In the Passkeys card, enter an optional name such as Work laptop or YubiKey. Names make it easier to identify a passkey later.
  5. Select Add passkey.
  6. Complete the browser or device prompt. Use your device verification method or follow the instructions for your security key.
  7. Confirm that the new passkey appears in the list. The list shows when it was added and, after use, when it was last used.

If the prompt is cancelled, nothing is added. You can start the process again when you are ready.

Sign in with a passkey

  1. Open the Scopable sign-in page.
  2. Select Use a passkey instead.
  3. Complete the prompt from your browser, device, or security key.
  4. After verification succeeds, Scopable signs you in.

The passkey option appears only when the beta is enabled and the browser supports it. If it is not available, sign in with your usual method or try a current supported browser.

Rename or remove a passkey

Return to My Profile, then Security, to manage the passkeys registered to your account.

  • Select the edit icon beside a passkey to give it a clearer name, then save the label.
  • Select the remove icon to begin removal. Select it again to confirm the removal.
  • Remove a passkey immediately if the device or security key is lost, shared unexpectedly, or no longer trusted.

Removing a passkey only removes its ability to sign in to Scopable. It does not remove the passkey from the device or security key itself. Use that device's settings if you also need to delete the local credential.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the Passkeys card or the passkey sign-in option

Passkeys may not be enabled for your account yet, or your browser may not support WebAuthn. Use another sign-in method, update to a current supported browser, and ask your administrator whether your account has access to the beta.

My browser says it cannot use passkeys

Make sure you are not using an outdated browser or a browser environment with WebAuthn disabled. Try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari on a device that has a screen lock, or try a compatible security key.

The passkey prompt was cancelled or expired

Start again from Add passkey or Use a passkey instead and complete the prompt promptly. Cancelling a prompt does not change your account.

My account is managed by single sign-on

Accounts managed by SSO cannot register passkeys in Scopable. Use the sign-in method required by your organization and contact your administrator if you need help.

I lost a device or security key

Use another sign-in method, then remove the affected passkey from My Profile > Security. If you cannot sign in, contact your Scopable administrator or support with the account email address and a description of the lost credential.

Frequently asked questions

Are passkeys a replacement for my password?

Passkeys can let you sign in without typing a password, but this beta does not remove your existing sign-in methods. Keep another method available until you have tested your passkey on the devices you use.

Can I add more than one passkey?

Yes. Adding more than one trusted passkey is recommended for recovery. If you reach the account limit, remove an old passkey before adding another.

What information does Scopable store?

Scopable stores the registration data needed to verify the passkey and the name you give it. Your fingerprint, face data, device PIN, and security-key secret remain on your device or security key.

Can an administrator remove a passkey for a user who is locked out?

An authorized administrator can help with passkey recovery. They can review and revoke a registered passkey so the user can register a new one after signing in with an available recovery method.
